k8s helm install example

Find the chart with helm search repo, install repo/chart, always -n. A .tgz path is the fallback.

helm status web -n app
helm get values web -n app
helm history web -n app
Stuck release

Fields

helm repo
add + update before search. The URL is in the question. Repo may already be there.
helm search
Prints repo/chart and versions. That name is what install wants.
helm install
repo/chart, or a path. Always -n. --set for values.
helm upgrade
Same chart ref as install. --install creates the release if it is missing.
helm list
-a shows failed and pending. Without it they are hidden.
helm uninstall
pending-install: uninstall, then install again. --no-hooks if it sticks.
helm rollback
Revision number from helm history. 1 is the first install.
--set
Chart key. replicaCount is common, not replicas.

Watch

  • helm list hides failed / pending unless you pass -a. Always -n.
  • Chart is repo/name (local/web) after helm search repo. A .tgz path also works.
  • pending-install: helm uninstall <rel> -n <ns>, then install again. --no-hooks if it sticks.
